Today is my and Superman’s 15 year wedding anniversary!!!!  FIFTEEN YEARS!!!!  We dated for five years before we got married, so we have been together for twenty years.  Time has definitely flown by.  It seriously feels like I blinked and now here we are today, fifteen years, three kids, three dogs, a few job changes later celebrating one of my most favorite days of my whole life!

So today’s post is going to be all about Superman and me.  We met when I was 16 and he was 20.  I was just a few weeks away from turning 17.  I met him at a party and a few days later he called me to ask me out on a date.  I was so nervous telling my parents about him!  I was entering my senior year in high school and he was entering his junior year in college.  Being three and a half years younger than him seemed huge at that time.  I can remember telling my mom about him for the first time.  We were sitting at the beauty salon and I told her I was asked out on a date and I really wanted to go.  She asked me where he went to school.  I cringed telling her he was in college because I knew she was expecting me to say a local high school.  I told her and I remember she looked at me and then asked how old he was.  I told her, and you know what, she was cool with it.  I was so nervous for nothing.

Our first date was to see Jesus Christ Superstar at an outside theater.  He later told me that he knew that night we would eventually get married.  He spoiled me rotten writing me letters (the good old days of actually writing on pen and paper and not texts), sending me flowers, driving home from college just to see me.  I was and still am a very lucky girl!

A year later I joined him at the University of Missouri – Columbia.  (I didn’t go there just because he went there.  MIZZOU was the school I wanted to go to since I was a little girl.)  I was a freshman while he was a senior.  He stayed in Columbia after he graduated while I finished school and then we both moved home.

We got engaged my junior year of college.  He proposed on a Friday night.  It was just the two of us and it was simple and sweet.  And then began a year and a half of making wedding plans!  I loved planning our wedding!  I had my two favorite ladies – my mom and my sister – by me every step of the way.

The day of our wedding was gorgeous.  The weather was perfect.  It wasn’t insanely hot even though it was August.  It was sunny all morning and afternoon and rained just a little during  our reception (rain on a wedding day brings good luck!).  We had an afternoon ceremony.  After the ceremony, the bridal party went with us to a park for pictures and then just the two of us went for a horse drawn carriage ride through the park.  And then we partied!  We had the best reception (I know I am partial)!  There was delicious food, laughing, LOTS of dancing.  And I was surrounded by those I love the most.  It was simply the best celebration!

Can we just take a minute and admire how beautiful this cake was? And it was soooo yummy!

So, now fifteen years have passed and at times it feels like it was just yesterday that I held my dad’s arm and walked down the aisle to the man I would spend the rest of my life with.  We have been through a lot – both happy and sad times.  Marriage is not always easy, it takes work.  But I can honestly say I would not want to be spending my life with any other.  He is my best friend and I know I am one lucky girl (even when he is on my last nerve!).

Happy 15 year anniversary Superman!  I love you like no other!  Thank you for being my other half and loving me the way you do!  Here’s to many, many more years!!!  Love you!

Happy Anniversary my love!
